The Creation
In week 6 of the semester we were given an idea to work upon and create an app. My group was given the task of creating a newspaper app. We identified the audience, the goal of the app and how could we make it more convenient than buying a real newspaper.
Our Audience comprised of mature aged people within our communities and also the business people of the community. The mature age were identified as less familiar with technology, and the business people would need to be able to access articles of interest quickly and easily but they are known to have more knowledge of technology. We determined that the app needed to be simple to use with big buttons and fonts for those of mature age to read and be able to use, it also had to have all sections that any newspaper would have. The business people would definitely want to access national and international news and see anything that could affect their business. We had to keep these two crucial elements in mind as we built the app.
Our focus goal of the app was to continue to providing the daily news to everyone without them having to go collect the newspaper and instead just open their phone.
Things I encountered creating the app:
- How would the company still make their money when no one was “buying” the newspaper? Solved by introducing a 14 day free trial and then after that $2 a fortnight and pop up ads at the bottom of articles and other pages within the app
- Simplifying navigation throughout the app. I introduced a hamburger menu that also included the word ‘menu’
- Simple arrows to remind users to scroll
- Large images on articles to attract attention.
